Dr. Welter has been practicing in the field of hair restoration surgery since 2005 and has since become one of the top surgeons and thought leaders in the country. An early adapter of regenerative technology, Dr. Welter was one of the first physicians in the country to utilize Platelet Rich Plasma to stimulate hair growth. In 2011, he performed the first ever stem cell scalp treatment and continues to advance this important research. Dr. Welter has achieved unparalleled results from combining cell based techniques with hair transplant surgery and has treated patients with his advanced cellular approach from across the globe. Over 100 physicians have received training at his office in his cell based technology and Dr. Welter continues to lecture and teach world wide with the goal of helping as many patients as possible gain access to cellular therapy.
A native of the midwest, Dr. Welter obtained his doctorate in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Oklahoma State University and his M.D. from the University of Oklahoma. He completed his residency at Brown University where he remains a clinical associate professor. Research continues to be very important to Dr. Welter, and he continues to be active in several clinical trials and is board certified with the ABFM.
Follicular Unit Excision has been a particular emphasis for Dr. Welter’s practice since 2010. He prefers sub millimeter extraction sites and high density placements. All donor areas are treated with his proprietary stem cell serum which has had a tremendous impact on post surgical healing. Dr. Welter has experimented with nearly every type of FUE punch and device on the market, and prefers manual extraction with power assistance for most cases. His strong artistic eye and his meticulous attention to detail result in exceptional results for even the most complicated patients.
Although Dr. Welter prefers FUE for most patients, he remains well versed in strip surgery, employing it when properly indicated. Having worked in an area of the country where strip surgery has been commonly performed, he has found a niche in strip surgery restoration to help diminish or eliminate visual scarring from the procedure. This has restored the confidence of hundreds of patients who have wanted to wear their hair short but have been embarrassed to do so due the visible scar.
Providing surgical and non surgical options to women has also been of great interest to Dr. Welter. Nearly a third of Dr. Welter’s patients are women because of the success he has had treating women with cellular therapies. His work in combined medical and cellular therapy has allowed so many women to achieve control over hair loss when other options have failed.
Dr. Welter is founder and chief surgeon of The New England Center for Hair Restoration, a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science and the International Society of Plastic Regenerative Surgeons.
