| We live in a society in which people
are raised to believe whatever their doctors tell them. A society
in which all doctors are thought to be equally well trained,
equally ethical and of equal quality. Unaware that certain doctors
do not deserve their trust, many patients will simply trust
all physicians. Because of this, many doctors have been able
to take advantage of vulnerable, ill-informed and desperate
patents. No matter how hard they try to become informed, many
patients don't realize they have been led astray, since most
of the information available in this field has been misleading
and self-serving.
Not all hair transplant surgeons are interested in changing
the infrastructure of their practices in order to accommodate
the equipment and staff required to provide state-of-the-art
surgical hair restoration The fact is, many hair transplantation
physicians do not have the ability to perform these procedures
and should not be practicing this discipline. While patients
may think of this as a medical service, cosmetic surgery (of
which hair transplantation is a specialty) is actually run
like a business by the vast majority of hair restoration surgeons.
As such, profit is the motivating factor behind nearly every
decision made by these unethical doctors.
With clever and expensive saturation marketing, surgeons who
do not use state-of-the-art techniques, have been able to
create a "credible" public image. Proclaiming themselves
as leaders in their field, they have bought and paid for public
opinion as well as household name status. This status has
absolutely nothing to do with the quality of their work -
it is merely the result of how much advertising they have
been able to buy.
Prior to the creation of the International Alliance of Hair
Restoration Surgeons (IAHRS), hair transplant surgeons had
free reign, with no set standards and no organizations to
set them.
The IAHRS has set the standards for the field, holds doctors
accountable for their actions and shares this information
with the public.
The IAHRS is the only safe and objective resource for patients
to use when assessing the quality and integrity of hair transplantation
surgeons.
