Dr. Nelson Ferreira graduated with honors from the University of Toronto pharmacology program in 1987. He was awarded the Andrew D Baines graduation award for the highest graduating marks in life sciences. It was not long after, he decided to pursue a career in medicine. Dr. Ferreira attended the faculty of medicine at the University of Toronto for the next four years. At that time he decided to pursue a career in academic emergency medicine. During his residency training Nelson was elected chief resident twice and voted “Intern of the Year”.

After finishing training in primary care medicine, Dr. Ferreira decided to dedicate himself to working in the emergency rooms affiliated with the University of Toronto. During his time in the emergency room he was responsible for teaching interns and residents and helped coordinate many teaching programs for students. After years of emergency work, Nelson was hoping to find an area of medicine where he could express a more artistic creativity and work with his hands in a more technical skill. Many of Dr. Ferreira’s family members have male pattern baldness and he also experienced significant hair loss beginning in his twenties. Several years ago Dr. Ferreira decided to have a hair transplant and was very happy with the results. Furthermore, the delicate nature of the surgery, the creativity, and the technical skills required were very appealing to the young doctor.

After several years of extensive research, observation and training he decided to accept an offer to become the medical director of Sure Hair International in 2005. The end result is an ultra-refined hair transplant that is tailored to the specific needs of his patient.

Dr. Ferreira discusses the surgery in great detail with all patients to ensure that each patient is fully informed and that he or she has a clear understanding of what to expect. He tries to make sure that each patient feels as if they have had an honest and clear discussion about the surgery and what to expect before, during and after the surgery. Due to the high volume of work that Dr. Ferreira performs, he employs technical associates who meet with out of town patients when he cannot meet them personally. He reviews all files personally and ensures that each Sure Hair associate is a positive representative of himself and the company as well. He has developed a close follow up program after the surgery that ensures each patient has adequate support and access following the procedure. It is his belief that the transplant begins with the first consultation and only ends when the results are fully grown in and the patient no longer feels that they need support. His career is indeed his passion as are his two wonderful boys who are still toddlers. He is married to a wonderful woman and tries to emulate the kind of life that he respects and admires. He also tries to be physically active and fit as well as a contributing member of society and the best father and husband that he can be.
