James Harris, MD
James A. Harris, MD, FACS is an internationally prominent surgeon in the field of hair restoration surgery, and a published author of both medical and consumer publications. He is a faculty member of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he teaches hair transplantation to resident physicians in training and community physicians.
As director of the Hair Sciences Center of Colorado (HSC), he has established a practice dedicated exclusively to providing the very best in medical and surgical treatments for hair loss. As part of this commitment, patient education and the highest standards of care are his first priority. Dr. Harris personally consults with every patient and is always the physician performing the surgery at HSC. Supported by an exceptionally experienced team of nurses and technicians specialized in hair replacement surgery, Dr. Harris’ standard of care does not end with surgery. Personalized follow-up attention is provided after the procedure, starting the very next day. This care continues until the hair is grown out and the patient is satisfied.
Actively participating at the forefront of research, Dr. Harris has pioneered and patented an advanced method of follicular unit extraction (FUE), called the Harris SAFE System . This method dramatically improves on traditional FUE by virtually eliminating follicle damage and making it available to all patients. Dr. Harris also developed and formalized the technique of Recombinant Follicular Unit Transplantation, a method to increase transplant hair density in a natural, undetectable fashion. This method was recently published in the fourth edition of Hair Transplantation, the authoritative book for surgeons on hair transplantation. He is also involved in research investigating the characteristics of hair that contribute to visual hair density. This research resulted in the introduction of the Hair Diameter Index at the 11th annual scientific meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery in New York. His expertise in the area of follicular unit transplantation is highlighted by his selection to author the chapter entitled “Follicular Unit Transplantation: Dissecting and Planting Techniques” in the recently published Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America: Hair Restoration edition. Dr. Harris is also at the forefront of biotechnology in the investigation of cell multiplication for the treatment of hair loss.
Recently, Dr. Harris authored, “The Hair Replacement Revolution: A Consumer’s Guide to Effective Hair Replacement Techniques.” This successful consumer guide is a comprehensive overview of the field of hair restoration that educates both men and women as they seek appropriate solutions to their hair loss.
Dr. Harris’ focus on state-of-the-art medical and surgical techniques and dedication to patient advocacy has firmly established him as a leader in the field of hair restoration.
