Bio

Carlos K. Wesley, M.D. graduated cum laude from Princeton University. He received his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine where he earned various awards for academic excellence. After completing his internship in Yale’s Department of Surgery, Dr. Wesley’s residency training in emergency medicine at Yale was followed by fellowship training with Drs. Walter and Robin Unger. He was honored to be the first International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) fellow invited to join their world-renowned practice.

As a partner in the practice, Dr. Wesley has advanced the surgical field by authoring publications and delivering lectures both domestically and internationally. He has presented his research findings on improving wound healing through utilization of endothelial stem cells to audiences throughout the U.S. and South America. In addition, he has lectured domestically on the various applications of hair restoration surgery to dermatologists and cosmetic surgeons.

As a diplomat of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), and a member of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Burn Association (ABA), and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS), Dr. Wesley was honored to author the Hair Transplantation chapter in the 7th Edition of the Grabb & Smith Plastic Surgery textbook, the only remaining single-volume text that attempts to cover the entire field in a comprehensive manner. He has also scripted chapters on Androgenetic Alopecia in both the 3rd and 4th Editions of Treatment of Skin Disease, published multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, and served as a contributing author for the most respected textbook in our field, the 5th Edition of Unger & Shapiro’s Hair Transplantation. Recently, Dr. Wesley authored a hair transplantation review for the world’s largest physician reference site, WebMD/Medscape – the most authoritative and accessible point of care medical reference available to physicians on the Internet.

Finally, in addition to his active clinical practice, he has continued pursuing research interests by working with colleagues at Yale School of Medicine to develop a unique surgical technique that may improve the yield of transplanted hair follicles while rendering scarring imperceptible.

Dr. Carlos Wesley is recommended by The American Hair Loss Association
