Oct 14, 2010 – Dan McGrath, D.O., a hair transplant surgeon and medical director for McGrath Medical with offices in Austin and Dallas, TX, will be one of the Basic Course instructors for Follicular Unit Hair Restoration Surgery for physicians new to the practice of hair restoration surgery. The Basic Course will be taught at the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgeons (ISHRS) in Boston, MA on October 20, 2010. Dr. McGrath, along with William Reed, II, M.D., will teach a hands-on session on hair restoration site preparation.

The theme of the 18th Annual Scientific Meeting of the ISHRS is revolution and evolution – Advances in Hair Restoration: Revolutionary Concepts and Evolutionary Techniques. Oct 04, 2010 – Scott Boden, M.D., a board certified hair transplant surgeon with the Hair Restoration and Aesthetic Medicine Center of Connecticut, recently gave cancer survivor, Genevieve Proto, the gift of hair by performing a pro bono hair transplant on her scalp.

In 2006, at the age of 50, Genevieve Proto was diagnosed with Lymphoma. She had surgery to excise the malignant tumor and then received 22 bouts of radiation therapy. Though she has been cancer-free for nearly three years, the emotional and physical scars of her experience are still with her. Treatment of the malignant tumor left a prominent bald patch on her scalp. She feared that she would have to endure this constant reminder of her illness for the rest of her life.
